Scribe Winery Wedding | Intimate Sonoma Elopement
Savannah and I met nearly 10 years ago while we were both studying abroad in Florence, Italy. Looonog before I knew I wanted to be a professional photographer and setup shop as one, I had already met one of my future brides. I’ve met my couples in bizarre ways in the past – like the bank teller who saw a check I was depositing was made out to a photographer or even the occasional ex-girlfriend of one of Brendan’s buddies! But how I met this bride, Savannah, will forever be the strangest…
It was the first weekend a few friends and I ventured outside Florence for a day trip into Tuscany. At the end of the day, we boarded a train back to the city only to realize that it was heading in the complete opposite direction of Florence. Still a little weary of the Italian rail system, our group from North Carolina and another group of students from Michigan (who were also heading back to Florence) essentially panicked at the next stop and all got off the train, afraid we’d somehow get trapped and end up in Venice. Silly first time travelers. Well, there we were, the 10 or so of us, at this super rural, itty bitty train station in the middle of nowhere. It didn’t feel like charming Tuscany, no it felt like the scene in a teen horror movie. The sun was down and there was maybe one light? We realized that we had no idea when the next train to Florence (or anywhere else for that matter) was coming – not great. And since this was before the days of smart phones, we couldn’t casually call up an Uber. Thankfully, a train to Florence came within about 30 minutes and we were off – our first travel blunder was safely behind us and now a funny story. Savannah was in the group from Michigan, and I was in the group from NC. We first met at train station with murder vibes in rural Italy.
I think it’s safe to say that I’ll never meet another bride in quite the same dramatic fashion, but boy am I glad that my path crossed with Sav’s that night. 8 years later I got to photograph her on the happiest day, surrounded by the people she loved most – including a couple who were on that train too ;) This wedding was one of the most intimate and heartfelt ones I’ve been a part of, and I loved hearing guests share their stories of Savannah and Marcus. With an ode to his Swedish heritage and a desire to simply be present with their guests, these two had a wedding that can only be described as perfect.
