This post makes me equal parts nervous and excited! But don’t all ideas and leaps of faith? I’m so excited to announce that I’ll be offering photography mentor sessions to aspiring wedding and portrait photographers! When I was first getting into my business, the wisdom and advice of those a few years ahead of me was invaluable. While I don’t claim to know all the answers, I love teaching and have a passion for seeing people fearlessly chase their calling. I’ve received tons of emails asking anything from how I started my business to the kind of gear I use to how I get my work published. These are such great questions, and a mentor session is a great way to get them answered! Mentor sessions have changed my business, and I hope to provide the same education, encouragement and kick in the pants to guys and gals breaking into the daunting world of wedding photography. More details/FAQs are below!
What is a mentor session?
A mentor session is a one-on-one opportunity for you to pick my brain, have your questions answered and learn what steps you should take to grow your business. Unlike workshops, mentor sessions are completely customizable and allow for an individualized learning experience so we get right to what’s most important to you! Sessions can be focused on business management, shooting techniques or whatever you think will help take your business and photography to the next level!
What does a mentor session include?
A 1.5 hour Skype session includes an in-depth brand and photography critique, as well as a discussion on several topics of your choice (ex: going full-time, branding, getting published, the backend of running a business, etc). We’ll round out our time with some goal-setting, and I’ll be following up to hold you accountable! A 3-hour in-person session includes all of that, as well as head shots, a natural light shooting lesson and coffee/tea/baked goods at my home studio in Chapel Hill. :)
Who would benefit from a mentor session?
Mentor sessions are best for aspiring photographers and those of you in the early years of your business.
Have any testimonies?
Why yes! Here’s a little blurb from my current intern, Tiffany:
As she photographed her subjects (or me), she would describe everything to me. The how and why behind the lighting, the position, the background. She also talked me through how to make people feel comfortable in front of the camera, because it seemed a little awkward and scary (and she made it look like a piece of cake). Emily also encouraged me to ask questions that I didn’t even know I had- about businesses, about money, about cameras, about everything. And she was so open about what she struggled with and succeeded at in her business experience that it made me feel like owning my own business was actually tangible.
When can I schedule my mentor session?
Mentor sessions can be scheduled during the week, Monday-Friday. I’ll begin scheduling them in late July/early August. Session times will vary depending on if you’d like a Skype or in-person session.
How much does a mentor session cost?
A 1.5-hour Skype session is $300, and a 3-hour in-person session is $600. Prices do not include applicable sales tax.
I’m interested! What’s next??
