Big Sur

Today I’m sharing some of my absolute favorite pictures from me and Brendan’s trip out west – Big Sur, California! If you’ve never driven up Hwy 1 along the California coast, then add it to your bucket list asap! The scenery is amazing and the views are truly incredible. The whole day I just kept thinking how amazingly beautiful a Big Sur wedding would be! Just imagine a bride and groom set against this backdrop – swoon!

Brendan and I woke up before the sun came up on this day to make the most of our drive from Santa Barbera to Santa Cruz. It’s hard to pick a favorite stop, but the elephant seal rookery early in our journey is definitely near the top! I don’t have many pictures in this post, but y’all. It was seriously one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. These giant (as in 2000+ pound) seals were basically just spooning on the beach and wiggling from one spot to the next. I honestly couldn’t control how hard I was laughing. After 10 minutes, Brendan and I decided that we’d rather have an elephant seal than a puppy.

As we continued our drive, we stopped at probably every overlook we saw. And every time we just couldn’t believe that a place this beautiful and equally rugged could exist. We felt like we were miles above the ocean and with zero cell service we felt like we were hours and hours away from civilization. We stopped for a late lunch in Carmel by the Sea and by the time we got to Santa Cruz, the sun was setting in glorious fashion. It’s hard to put into words what this day felt like, but epic is really the only word I can think of. Every panoramic view, every cliff that dove into deep blue water and every giant crashing wave was one for the books. I’m already itching to explore this beautiful coastline more!
