UNC Chapel Hill Senior Portraits
It’s been many years since the first time I told a group of girls to hold hands and laugh has they walked towards me. I’m sure they thought I was crazy, but to this day, I get requests for that picture at nearly every mini session! Senior portrait trends continue to amaze me. There was the year of big balloons, which was followed by the year of confetti. Not too long ago groups started bringing bottles of champagne to sessions (you know I’m a fan of that one!) to pop in celebration. Puppies are, of course, regular guest stars on the portrait session scene (also a favorite). Last year a couple even brought their Vespas! Some of these trends have gone and others have stuck around, but the one trend that I hope will never fade is documenting an amazing season with the people you’re sharing it with. And with that dose of sentimentality, details for senior mini sessions are below!

FAQ
No. 1 What happens if it rains?
I love rainy days, but they are a bummer when they interfere with sessions! My typical game plan is to keep an eye on the forecast and out the window throughout the day. If I feel like we should reschedule your session, then I’ll make that decision at least 1 hour before your session start time. Since I live in California, mini sessions will be rescheduled to any available session slots or another weekday time. If we can’t find a time that works for both of us, I’ll refund your payment and refer you to another fantastic photographer.
No. 2 What is film? Why is it extra?
Film is my primary medium of choice, and, apart from what you see in this blog post, it’s what all my weddings and other sessions are shot in. I typically shoot digital for senior mini sessions so I can deliver images quicker. If you’d like to read more about the benefits of film and why it makes my heart skip a beat, you can read about it here.
No. 3 I want to have 15 people in my group – is that too many?
Nope! I’ve photographed large groups plenty of times – from sorority sisters to the women’s swim team – and love it! Just know that you’ll probably receive fewer individual pictures than you normally would in a small group of 3 or 4. If you feel that 45 minutes won’t quite be enough to get enough pictures of everyone in your group, then you are welcome to book two sessions in a row.
No. 4 Can we bring props?
I love props and think they’re a great way to have some fun with your pictures. Puppies, champagne, balloons, banners, confetti – I’ve seen it all! It’s helpful for me to know before your session so I can advise of the best way to use your props or where to find them.
No. 5 Our session includes 35 pictures – can I purchase more?
Of course! I certainly take more than 35 pictures during your session, so if you’d like to receive more, it’s $50 for an extra 20 high-res images.
No. 6 Where will our session take place?
I always try to get your picture in front of the Old Well, South Building and the Bell Tower. Sometimes with larger groups, time doesn’t allow us to visit all three. If there are other places on campus (the Arboretum, a specific dorm or building, etc), I’m happy to work them into your session! Just know that it might mean we skip another location to make it work.
No. 7 How do we pay?
Your entire session payment is due with booking. At this time, I prefer to cut out credit card processing fees and only accept checks or Venmo payments. I also request that payment be made by one person instead of everyone in your group sending money for their portion. This makes things a little easier on my end, and it’s not too difficult to pay each other back within your group :)
No. 8 Can I see more pictures than what’s posted here?
You sure can! I post sneak peeks on my Facebook page within a couple days after every mini session. You can view a few of them here: 2017 gallery, 2016 gallery, 2015 gallery, 2014 gallery.
