As you probably guessed from my post on the Musée d’Orsay, I’m a big fan of art museums, especially ones that feature Impressionists. It’s impossible for me to pick my favorite museum, but I think it might just be the Musée de l’Orangerie. There’s a kind of serenity to this place (if you’re able to look past the crowds of tourists) that is unlike any museum I’ve ever been to. Featuring the massive canvases of Monet’s Waterlilies, the space created in this museum commands your attention. It’s not a museum you can peruse; it’s one you’re completely immersed in. Curved walls hold the 30-foot masterpieces so that they completely fill your frame of view. And soft, natural light peeking in from skylights gives the space an openness despite it being relatively small. This is one of this places that I would love to shoot a Paris engagement session. Can you even imagine how dreamy that would be??
If you’re in Paris, this is another must-visit! I highly recommend getting there early (like before they open) so you can beat most of the crowds and enjoy this place in stillness.
