Hooray – I am so excited to share this fun day in Provence with you guys! Every day in France was my favorite, but this one was particularly great because we got to do so much exploring. The Luberon is a hilly, almost mountainy, region in northern Provence that is known for its quant hilltop towns. There are a lot of them – far to many to see in just one or even two days, but we managed to see four during our weekend. I’m so grateful that we prioritized this area – it’s so beautiful guys!
The first village we visited was Lourmarin, which was only about 15 minutes from where we stayed. We stayed in a renovated Provencal farmhouse, and had actual withdrawal when leaving. I cannot recommend this place enough guys. Fantastic price point AND gorgeous location. Anyway! It’s was a stone’s throw from Lourmarin, so we ventured to the little town for dinner one night and ate at an outdoor cafe with a bunch of local – so fun!
The remaining three villages we stopped in were Bonnieux, Ménerbes and a quick drive-by of Gordes on our last day in Provence. We loved wandering around old cobblestone streets and admiring the amazing views these hilltop towns provided. Also, the window shutters. Don’t even get me started! Our last stop (which I was worried we wouldn’t have time for) was the Senanque Abbey just north of Gordes. This place can be a little tricky to get to (parking is a mess), but it’s well worth the extra time in my opinion to see something so beautiful. Rows and rows of lavender (more of that coming!) lead up to an abbey that has been around for nearly 900 years! All these towns came with so much history and we loved daydreaming about what it must have been like to live in one of them years and years ago. It’s definitely a place I’d love to go back to again and can’t recommend it enough if you find yourself in the area!
