Moustiers-Sainte-Marie was one of those lucky finds that perusing Google Maps led me to while planning our trip to France. Tucked up in the mountains east of the Luberon, this gem of a town felt like another world. If you’ve ever watched Lord of the Rings, then imagine Rivendell, but with blue window shutters, and that’ll give you a good idea of how Moustiers-Sainte-Marie feels. A stream/river runs directly through the center of town, dropping into a huge waterfall right beneath an arched bridge adorned with colorful flowers. Despite the *insane* crowds when we visited, Brendan and I loved wandering around the tiny curved streets of this little town. It’s off-the-beaten path, but so worth the visit, especially if you’ll be in nearby Valensole or taking in views of the Verdon Gorge. It’s also a wonderful place if you’re a fan of pottery! We explored so many cute stores selling handmade vases, plates, etc, often painted by hand with scenes of the area. If we ever find ourselves back in this region, we’ll definitely be paying another visit to this little village.
