2019 Senior Mini Sessions

UNC Chapel Hill Senior Portraits

It’s springtime, which means it’s time for my 7th annual round of senior mini sessions! This year will look a little different than years past because I welcomed my beautiful little girl into the world last fall, and my family and I will be relocating to Wilmington at the end of this summer! This trip to NC is primarily for house hunting, but I had to spend some time walking around my alma mater snapping pictures of this year’s graduates.

Given my limited time in Chapel Hill and the fact it coincides with the week before graduation (hands down the most crowded time to take pictures on campus), all my sessions will be scheduled in the morning. Hopefully this will cut down on wait times at various campus landmarks and allow you lovely almost college graduates to not miss afternoon or evening activities you have on your calendar. Morning light is also SUPER dreamy – all the pictures in this post were taken at sessions scheduled in the morning. Have any questions? Scroll to the bottom to see some FAQs. If your question isn’t answered there, feel free to shoot me an email at emilymarchphoto@gmail.com!

FAQ

No. 1 What happens if it rains?

I love rainy days, but they are a bummer when they interfere with sessions! My typical game plan is to keep an eye on the forecast and out the window throughout the morning. If I feel like rain will prevent us from being able to shoot, I’ll contact you at least 1 hour before your session start time. Since I live in California and these are the only days I’ll be in Chapel Hill, rained out Tuesday sessions will be pushed to either A) Tuesday afternoon if the weather clears or b) any available session on Wednesday. I will not be able to reschedule Wednesday sessions, so you’ll receive a full refund if we’re unable to meet due to inclement weather.

No. 2 What is film? Why is it extra?

Film is my primary medium of choice, and, apart from what you see from previous senior sessions, it’s what all my weddings and other portraits are shot in. I typically shoot digital for senior mini sessions so I can deliver images quicker. If you’d like to read more about the benefits of film and why it makes my heart skip a beat, you can read about it here.

No. 3 I want to have 15 people in my group – is that too many?

Nope! I’ve photographed large groups plenty of times – from sorority sisters to the women’s swim team – and love it! Just know that you’ll probably receive fewer individual pictures than you normally would in a small group of 3 or 4. If you feel that 45 minutes won’t quite be enough to get enough pictures of everyone in your group, then you are welcome to book two sessions in a row.

No. 4 Can we bring props?

I love props and think they’re a great way to have some fun with your pictures. Puppies, champagne, balloons, banners, confetti – I’ve seen it all! It’s helpful for me to know before your session so I can advise of the best way to use your props or where to find them.

No. 5 Our session includes 35 pictures – can I purchase more?

Of course! I certainly take more than 35 pictures during your session, so if you’d like to receive more, it’s $50 for an extra 20 high-res images.

No. 6 Where will our session take place?

I always try to get your picture in front of the Old Well, South Building and the Bell Tower. Sometimes with larger groups, time doesn’t allow us to visit all three. If there are other places on campus (the Arboretum, a specific dorm or building, etc), I’m happy to work them into your session! Just know that it might mean we skip another location to make it work.

No. 7 How do we pay?

Your entire session payment is due with booking. At this time, I prefer to cut out credit card processing fees and only accept checks or Venmo payments. I also request that payment be made by one person instead of everyone in your group sending money for their portion. This makes things a little easier on my end, and it’s not too difficult to pay each other back within your group :)

No. 8 Can I see more pictures than what’s posted here?

You sure can! I post sneak peeks on my Facebook page within a couple days after every mini session. These galleries will give you an idea of the locations we’ll visit and the typical poses most seniors like. You can view a few of them here: 2018 gallery2017 gallery2016 gallery, and 2015 gallery.
