When Sarah and I met three years ago, we were practically strangers. Both NC natives, we had a mutual friend and Sarah reached out to me shortly after I moved to Santa Rosa to welcome me to California. She asked if I’d be interested in grabbing a glass of wine – interested in wine? The answer is always yes.
So, I headed to Sonoma to meet this friendly stranger girl. You know those people that you just instantly click with? Where after 5 minutes you feel like you’ve known each other for years? That’s how it was with Sarah. I can’t remember how long we meandered through downtown Sonoma chatting and sipping wine (I think it was literally 5 hours), but by the time I left, I knew I had made a dear friend. And in a place where I didn’t know a soul, it was a breath of fresh air feeling known.
Living about an hour apart, Sarah and I didn’t see each other but every few months. Yet, every time we did, we picked up right where we left off. There’s something about those kinds of friendships that’s rare and really beautiful. That time and space don’t dwindle your honesty and closeness with each other.
I snapped these pictures of Sarah and her husband, Mike, just a few weeks before we moved, and I think they might be my favorite pictures I took while living out there (bold statement peeps!). The color, the light, that view! Mike is a grape grower in Napa Valley and managed to get us access to this gorgeous private property for our session – I was a fan, needless to say.
This was my last session in California before heading east, and I’m so glad it happened! Sarah, love you mucho. I miss our wine and Chic-fil-a dates. Hope you see you on one of the coasts soon, friend!
